bought this as it was the only sweat end globe valve avail.
Used these globe valves on the return connections on some underfloor convectors (baseboard radiator units mounted underfloor as dump zone for a coal fired boiler as well as to provide supplemental heat in a cold area of house). Used these globe valves to provide some restriction on return connections on the individual convector units to roughly balance flows.
Quality of valves seems a bit inconsistent. One valve had a tight/"stiff" stem packing, the other two act like no packing in the stems even when I made up on the gland nuts.
Put an 80 psig air test on the system against these globe valves which were close tight. System slowly bled down. Soapsuds test on all sweated joints, screwed connections, and unions showed no leaks, so can only conclude these globe valves do not seal "bubble tight" against 80 psig compressed air. These are "soft seated" valves, with some kind of O ring or similar on the valve discs rather than a ground-in type of globe valve. Am going to use these valve for throttling hot water flow in hydronic heating system, so probably will be OK. Definitely NOT the quality of an "old name" valve like Lunkenheimer, Jenkins, or Crane. For the price and since it was the only sweat end globe valve that Supply House had to offer, I suppose I "got what I paid for".
