The J10 controls are designed to regulate the relative humidity of confined spaces by cycling humidifying or dehumidifying equipment. They are designed for use as internal components for portable humidifiers and dehumidifiers, and as wall mounted humidity controls for central systems. The J10 is a relative humidity control, consisting of a humidity sensing element, adjustable setpoint cam and an electrical switch. The sensing element changes length in response to the exposed RH to move the switch mechanisms at the appropriate switch points.

No the unit is not defective, using an AC to dehumidify is usually going to do that and is not suggested. AC dehumidify as a by product of cooling not by design, especially in Fla, i would suggest a stand alone dehumidifier.
The normal comfort range for for a home at 65 degrees F is between 30 and 50 % humidity. Too much humidity will cause condensation.
35-40%
J10-810 is a dehumidistat, so it closes (i.e. activates) a circuit on a rise in humidity. J10-821 is a humidistat, so it closes a circuit on a fall in humidity.
I am using it to control my humidors humidity level at 70%.it would turn my humidifier on when it falls below 70%. Hope this would help. Thanks Gary

This humidistat includes only very basic instructions. It should be fairly easy to install for someone who has installation/wiring experience with similar devices.
This unit is white. The current picture above gives an accurate representation.

According to the manufacturer, the on function will allow the humidstat to run continuously. There are many factors that determine what the best setting is for the temperature that you want. Some of these factors include outside weather and indoor temperature.
