Description

The J10 controls are designed to regulate the relative humidity of confined spaces by cycling humidifying or dehumidifying equipment. They are designed for use as internal components for portable humidifiers and dehumidifiers, and as wall mounted humidity controls for central systems. The J10 is a relative humidity control, consisting of a humidity sensing element, adjustable setpoint cam and an electrical switch. The sensing element changes length in response to the exposed RH to move the switch mechanisms at the appropriate switch points.

Applications

  • Space and Product
  • Humidifiers
  • Ventilation fans for confined spaces.
  • Materials processing
  • Central HVAC units

Features

  • Strong plastic frame with integral switch
  • Improved woven nylon sensing element provides 12 times faster speed of response than film nylon elements.
  • Greater stability of setpoints over dramatic changes in relative humidity.
  • Improved differential allowing 5%RH.
  • Switch grade plastic frame eliminates the need for grounding the control.
  • Choice of 5% or 15%RH differentials.
  • Choice of (2) SPST and (2) SPDT switches to better match applications.
  • Choice of fixed or adjustable setpoints.
  • Choice of dial shaft flat orientation.

Works perfectly

I make my own cigar humidifiers because the commercial ones are so poorly made and ineffective. I use the humidistat to control the fan on my humidifiers. Works like a charm.

Does what it supposed to do

Had to replace my hydrometer that was in my humidor. Works as it's supposed to. The only issue is that I had to take it apart to put into the existing housing. But, to be honest, that was my problem. Since the housing was for an older model the label vs the actual RH readout was different. With some adjustment this was easily sorted out. Still kicking and working. No issues.

Works well

Using it to run an industrial humidifier at a church (with a relay to handle the load of course). Replacing an electronic humidistat that would reset on every power glitch. This one also holds a tighter band of humidity and we mounted it inverted so we could see the dial (it's about 7 ft above the floor). This humidifier humidifies the air in the blower room for our historic pipe organ, keeping the organ well humidified during the winter in Iowa. Hope it lasts. Also in photo is a little monitor made by LaCrosse. It is wireless to a hub that allows you to monitor temp and RH from your computer or smart phone. You can also set alerts (Text and e-mail). Perfect for an unattended system,

Mind of it's Own!

I use this item to control humidity at the 70 percent range. Although, I get just about everything but what I need. It has a mind of it's own, it's either on or off no matter what percentage I select. Not reliable at all. I purchased this one to replace another that had the same problem. There's nothing great about it, it just plain sucks!

Q: Three times now I have returned to my vacation home and the humidistat has cranked the temp to low 60's by continuous running of the a/c. Would you say the unit might be defective??? The last time my electric bill was almost $400 - for an empty house.

No the unit is not defective, using an AC to dehumidify is usually going to do that and is not suggested. AC dehumidify as a by product of cooling not by design, especially in Fla, i would suggest a stand alone dehumidifier.

Q: We have a Ranco Wall mount humidifier. Our house shows it is very dry. What should we set our humidifier control at to make this go up to normal range?

The normal comfort range for for a home at 65 degrees F is between 30 and 50 % humidity. Too much humidity will cause condensation.

Q: Do the J10-821 and the J10-810 units close on rise of humidity level or close on fall of humidity level?

J10-810 is a dehumidistat, so it closes (i.e. activates) a circuit on a rise in humidity. J10-821 is a humidistat, so it closes a circuit on a fall in humidity.

Q: We went away for a few weeks and set the Humidistat at 60 and the temp at 80 as per instructions. when we returned the code on the thermistat was O L. No air was on and the temp. was 93 inside. Don't think it worked at all while we were away. Technician did not know what the O L meant. Per his instructions leave the humidistat set at ON all the time. Is this correct?. Also we need a manual for this unit.

This humidistat includes only very basic instructions. It should be fairly easy to install for someone who has installation/wiring experience with similar devices.

According to the manufacturer, the on function will allow the humidstat to run continuously. There are many factors that determine what the best setting is for the temperature that you want. Some of these factors include outside weather and indoor temperature.
