Needed for NEST Thermostat
This is the perfect transformer to use with the nest thermostat. The nest thermostat has a very limited range of voltage that it can operate on without damaging itself. If you use this 277 volt transformer on a 240 V circuit, the secondary voltage is perfect for the nest. The nest requires exactly 24 volts. Most transformers have a secondary voltage of 27.5 volts. Running a nest thermostat at that higher voltage will cause it to fail within a month. This transformer fixes that.
