These ProTech HVAC capacitors are tested to the highest UL810 standards for safe and reliable performance. To test an A/C unit capacitor with a voltage meter, first remove the air conditioning capacitor from the control board and discharge it fully by connecting it across a resistor. Then, connect the positive terminal of the AC capacitor to the red probe and the negative terminal to the black probe found on the digital multimeter. Rotate the multimeter knob to select the capacitance mode. Look at the display panel and note the given capacitance for the capacitor unit; compare it to the value shown to check for a faulty capacitor. Variation between 10%-20% from the actual capacitance value is acceptable in most cases but if the displayed value is extremely high or low, you may have a bad capacitor that needs to be replaced by an HVAC professional immediately.
