Model 10 1/4" to 1/2" Screw Extractor Set

Tried to use this to remove a 5/16 bolt and the extractor broke with very little force

There are many different screw extractor types and sets and this is "the set" recommended by the wrench turners I know as the most effective. Previously my extractors were mostly spiral types, and only one set came with "drills". This Ridgid is my current "goto" set. Here are some things that I like about the set. 1. They include a recommended size bit for each extractor. Oddly, the extractors are metric and the bits are SAE, but whatever. 2. They include a drilling guide so that you are more likely to drill straight into the center of the bolt / screw. 3. There is a nice carrying case that keeps everything together. Very nice for grab and go. 4. Works very well. 5. Made in the USA. What might be nicer? 1. A left hand drill bit rather than a right hand drill bit, which would help apply loosening forces while drilling a hole in the head. 2. Cobalt bits will hold up better. If you use this often, you will be buying replacement bits anyway, so just buy the types you want to use and the HSS bits provided do work just fine. So my complaints are small. My 1990's craftsman set has an integrated cutter with a spiral extractor. You wear out one side you need to replace the entire things. Better for low use in that regards. it does have a left handed cutter though. This does have a case, which is nice. My even older Spirals do not have a nice case or any way to associate the drill bits with the spirals, and I don't think that the spirals work as well for me as this Ridgid set.
