EX17DTN 16,700 BTU, Beige Direct Vent Wall Furnace, 46W, 120V, 141.5 CFM (Natural Gas)

I had this installed in the basement of a Minneapolis rental house along with a mini-split on the main level. Both replaced a 40k btu furnace that short-cycled itself to death with a cracked heat exchanger. The tenants had something of a learning curve to balance the two independent systems, but came to really appreciate the silent, gentle, even heating versus the old furnace that would fire up, make a tremendous racket, and shut down 4-5 minutes later. I had quite a bit of trouble convincing a licensed pro to install this. I don't know why... I could have installed it in an hour or two with basic hand tools. I guess its unusual in this part of the country and the pro's don't like to learn new things. The contractor made me get this bigger, more expensive unit or he wouldn't take the job. I regret caving to this demand because I've never seen it run at more that 50% modulation, the 12k unit would have been much more appropriate. I think these Rinnai units are the perfect pairing to a mini-split in homes that already have, and plan to keep gas service. I tried to pitch that to the installer, who does hundreds of mini-splits every year, but they just grumbled about it. I'm considering replicating the same setup in my home when the time comes to replace the furnace.

I just had this installed in my living room as I am tired of using the woodstove after 40 years. It's been chilly this April and May, it's been lovely to just press a button or two and be warm rather quickly. I love this Rinnai gas heater. It's pretty, quiet and has a big range of controls if I'm out of town I can come va k to a wa house. The heat flows nicely right up into my kitchen and down the hallway too. Best investment I've made!
