Update after using filter for several months
After using this for several months I'm still happy with it but want to mention a problem I've had. Since the housing is clear it had a tendency for grow algae. It's nice to be able to see how clogged the filter is without taking it apart but I needed a way to stop the algae growing. From the photo you can see some scrap ABS pipe that was cut lengthwise like a clam shell. Putting this over the filter has stopped the algae growth.

The most fun I've had with a filter
The water feed is from a stream near the house and runs through some ancient iron pipes. The result is water with a lot of sediment and iron flakes. Initially I was using a Big Blue filter but it got clogged too quickly even with a large pore size. The Rusco spindown filter is really nice because it catches all those large pieces of sediment. I can see them so it's easy to monitor and a turn of the red flush valve gets rid of them. No need to turn off the main water valve and unscrew the housing of the filter. It's been in service for a week. No leaks so far and easy to install. So glad I found this.
