Worked great!
I installed a backflow that was a couple of inches below the concrete surface. I twisted the lower coupling onto the valve and inserted the 16" long piece of 8" pvc. I marked it slightly above the level of the concrete and cut it and reinserted and applied the cap. It stands proud of the concrete a fraction of an inch but I'd rather have it longer than too short. In my case it was in the corner against a wall and not a trip hazard.
