7/8" Swage Union

I used two of these and for other sizes in a single residential attic installation. It's been about a week now with no leaks and no failures. I was skeptical but absolutely did not want to torch in this hot attic. One of the factory swages was quite short and didn't extend all the way to the depth mark for the fitting but the interior sealing surface made good contact. I didn't ruin a single fitting. They are expensive but so convenient. Only time will tell if it'll hold up. I did a fair amount of manipulation of the lineset after installation and all the smartlocks are holding fine.

I used 6 smartlock connections in a new installation on an old line set. I used 4 swage union connections, 2 reducing unions and one straight union. I am a first time user and did not have a single failure. It's only been a week so I can't speak to the long-term results.

the 7/8" was difficult to get over the swage. The manufacturer used a bolt inside the plug which stretched the end a little. The 3/8" swage union worked flawlessly.

There is a review, right before mine which states that the 7/8 swage connection is very difficult to fit onto the swage end. I also saw an HVAC tech on YouTube using the exact same 7/8 swage fitting and he appeared to have the exact same problem. I installed mine today (05/31/26) and it slid on like a glove with zero effort. it was literally perfect at both the factory swage end as well as the tube end. I'm wondering if there was some sort of design change? no idea but five stars for the 7/8 in swage fitting I received.

Whether it be a factory swage, or made by a hydraulic hand tool, these are VERY difficult to get on. The tube side is a little better, but the swage side is ridiculous. I think the manufacturer should open up their tolerances a little or something, because the 3/8 version slide on like butter. Not so with the 7/8. No leaks so far though, so at least that's good.

Very difficult to get on compared to the 3/8 swage. Had to put a concerning amount of force to get the lock onto the factory swage. Also very hard to tighten to no gap. I would recommend a long adjustable to help tighten. I used a 10 inch adjustable and felt like I was going to break my arm getting it to no gap. However, it I pulled a vaccum down to 230 microns. So it definitely seals well. Only time will tell if it holds up
