Nice Option to Add to House Control System

This tekmar internet module is easily added to most tekmar house control systems and provides 24 hr access and alerts should something go wrong. The module is compatible with many tekmar controls. Mine was originally installed 10 years ago. The connections/wiring between the module and the house control was easy. I was a bit more challenging to configure the Wifi connection with my house internet server. But with a bit of time I was able to work through it with minimal additional tech support.

Careful, not equiped to handle power interruption!

Just returning my 3rd 485 under warantee! Informed that these things do not like power interruptions. I use a 485 for control of my house heating system and snow melt remotely. Purchased about two years ago along with all the other controls, including a 406 to control a Geo HP, several setpoint controls and 6 thermostats (all Tekmar). The 485 is not too bad to set up and get working. The layout of the online controls is fine. This device (when working) provides access to change schedules and temperature settings on all the thermostats, and you can monitor much of the heating system sensors, and see current temperatures at each thermostat. All nicely done. Not all advertised functions are proper though, the data logging function only allows select data to the user, basically target temperatures and current temperatures, does not indicate cycles of the device outputs. And the graphing inter-phase for the data has several malfunctions when printing. Among other issues. Biggest issue, certainly for me, is we have occasional power outages, and Tekmar admits that power interruption can corrupt the data and kill it dead. My first one lasted about 12 months, 2nd only 3 months, 3rd less than 3 months, and third one was on a UPS, and only saw 3 outages at most, with no brownouts or flickering power ever! Still dead. I hope they fix this, because I need remote control of my snow melt. My problem is, most users have more reliable power, so only a small number of devices die under 3 yr warrantee. So # 4 is on its way to my home, and is not expected to be any different than the previous 3. Only immediate fix for me is to install a larger UPS, or install an automatic stand-by generator. To me, power outages should be trivial, and the device should handle it. Purchase one, and be sure to add a UPS while under 3 yr warrantee (requires you to unplug it!), Past Warantee and BEWARE! Don't let anyone EVER disconnect it! (Mfr Date code under top cover on right edge.)

Tekmar 485 - Awesome device!

I have a boiler, indirect DHW heater, and hydronic radiant floor heat all controlled by a Tekmar House Control 400 with the expansion port linked to a Tekmar tN2 Wiring Center 313 (so I can have 8 zones instead of 4). There are 5 TekmarNet Thermostat 552 connected and 3 TekmarNet Thermostat 527. You need one 552 for each separate heating schedule, so I could get by with just 3 but I didn't know that at the time of purchase. The 527 model can work standalone or follow a 552 schedule. I purchased the Tekmar 485 and connected it to the 400 expansion port (same port as the 313 is connected to), and to my internet router. It works great. The web UI is very nice and doesn't seem buggy at all like many other network connected devices (like IP Cam systems). I was able to set up schedules and users and remotely control my system from my phone (via web).

Yes, the 485 should have a static IP address.
