Not exact replacement, but it works
After almost 10 years, the WeatherGuard top on my Trane XL16i heat pump was rotting from sun exposure and falling to pieces. Trane says that part is not warranted, even though I have a 10 year parts warranty and my local dealer wanted $500 to replace it. Seemed high to me, so I went looking for an alternative.
I found this unit at SupplyHouse. It appeared to be a replacement and the price was much better, so I ordered one. It took a while (months) to get it, but it finally arrived.
Turns out it's not an exact replacement of the original. It is an after-market kit for units that never had a WeatherGuard top. It comes in two pieces with the bottom ring intended to snap onto the existing unit and the WeatherGuard top screwing to the ring.
The bottom ring fit, but did not snap on my unit, so I drilled a few holes to secure it. Then I used the supplied hardware to attach the top.
Overall, not too difficult, and it looks like it will do the job. The fact that I saved over $200 (compared to the replacement my local dealer offered) makes it well worth the effort.
