The answer to my prayers

The valve assembly required no sweat joints, just screw it on just like the original valve assembly. Just remove the switch from the old valve, add it to the power head, and wire it in. The whole process took 15 minutes. Don't forget to turn off the water supply to the boiler FIRST.

Instructions unclear

Note that this unit does not include the auxiliary switch. It does have holes to mount an existing switch, but the instructions do not explain this clearly. Also it appears the unit I received has a manufacturing defect - the hole in the motor mounting plate that is supposed to locate the valve shaft is too small, causing the plate to bend. The unit sat around for a while and I needed the motor from it to get my heat working again, or I would have returned it.
