My options were to buy a new 1 1/2" water pressure reduction valve or rebuild the existing one in the current housing at my house. New was around $900+. Rebuild was less than $200. I chose to rebuild and purchase the new cartridge from the Supply House. It arrive a couple of days after the purchase. I relied on YouTube videos to tackle this task. The hard part was getting the old cartridge out, as I found out the pressure creep issue was from tiny stones that chipped away at the ceramic and rubber seal on the bottom of the cartridge. I dismantled the top bolt and this dislodged the stones and the removal process went smoothly after that. New cartridge worked from the start and took my water pressure from 96 PSI down to 60 PSI. I needed to buy a wrench that could open to 2 1/4" to get the bell housing off and tightened back on. I don't know how small stone got into my water line, but if the pressure creep happens again, I will know where to look first. I will examine the ceramic and rubber bottom seal every year from now on, while watching the water pressure into my home. Good buy on my part to keep the cost fix of a new pressure regulator down. By the way, my WPR runs horizontal in the ground, not vertical like most WPR do in my neighborhood. This could be why I found small stones in my WPR casing. I did not install the original WPR. There is also a new flat rubber washer that comes with this cartridge, that does not go into the bell housing. It is if it is needed if the WPR housing is removed and reattached again.
