A must for Florida

The Honeywell DR90 whole house dehumidifier is a great enhancement to my home. Living in coastal Florida, the humidity is high year round. I was using a humidity control on my AC to regulate humidity, which works OK in hot weather but is ineffective during mild weather. The AC would overcool (3 degrees lower than temperature setpoint) to drop humidity (55% target RH), and often the RH was still above 60%. The DR90 has been running for 2 weeks maintaining a 50% RH and I have not had to run the AC. The installation took several days for a person with good DIY skills. I did some carpentry work in the attic to mount the unit, ran 2 dedicated returns from the house, and connected the output to the main AC supply plenum (with backdraft damper). I connected the drain to the AC condensation drain pipe with float sensors near the dehumidifier and at a low point of the drain line. I set the DR90 in a drip pan with a water sensor. The float sensors and pan sensor are all connected to a relay to shut down the dehumidifier and setoff an alarm if there is an issue. For the humidistat, I mounted a Honeywell TrueIAQ by the main thermostat. I highly recommend the TrueIAQ. The dehumidifier is extremely quiet. The unit is in the attic over the garage. I can hear a low pitch vibration hum when standing directly under the unit. Inside the house, the fan noise is barely audible when standing under the ceiling return. I purchased the DR90 and most of the installation supplies from Supplyhouse. They did a price match on the DR90 so I was able to get all my supplies through one source. The supplies arrived quickly, but I was a little disappointed with the 2 week shipping on the DR90. At least the shipping was free. Here is a list of the items purchased from Supplyhouse for the DR90 installation: - Honeywell TrueIAQ Humidistat - Fantech RSK10 backdraft damper - Aquagard AG-1250E pan sensor and AG-9100 alarm - Rectorseal SS2 float switches - Functional Devices RIBU1C Relay (for alarm)

Exteremely POOR warranty support from Manufacturer!

Purchased a DR90 3 years ago and it has never been fully installed, only run it occasionally sitting on the basement floor. 2 years in the defrost thermostat fails, fan runs but compressor won't run. After some testing I confirmed it was the defrost stat. Since it's under warranty (5 years) you'd think it would be as easy as calling and getting the name for an authorized repair house for Honewell... think again. Honeywell gave me a list of about 5 local contractors that they say do warranty work. NONE of them do warranty, some sell the odd Honewell thermostat or other product. The only thing that kept popping up was to call the licensed contractor that installed the unit??? Essentially there IS NO WARRANTY if you purchase this and install it yourself. Much like Microsoft warranty on OEM copies of software, they seem to require contractors to provide the warranty labour, I'm sure Honywell would then cover parts but just try and get a contractor to warranty something they didn't sell.... it's a farce. I purchased this unit after burining through a portable unit every few years hoping for better, long lasting quality and partly because of the 5 year warranty. Well that's worth about as much as the paper it's written on. Defrost stat failed with 4 months of acutaly service too, so much for that "quality" I was looking for. So I'm forced to purchase and install a new Defrost stat myself when it should be a warranty item. Hopefully that's the only thing that's junk about this unit and it ends up lasting... time will tell but buyer bewary of bogus warranty promises.

Absolute Garbage

I've been thru 3 of these so far and none have lasted more than 1 season! Sure they have a 5 year warranty but do you really want to have to remove it, pack it up and send it back (at your expense) every year?

I would buy this product again

The Honeywell DR90 seems a high quality product and I am expecting good reliability. Cheaper online house dehumidifiers I have bought in the past have proved unreliable. This unit requires a Honeywell HumidiPRO Digital Humidity Control, which needs to be wired to the unit by following the circuit diagram provided. Without prior experience it may necessary to read the Installation Instruction several times. Delivered on a pallet no problem. Thanks SupplyHouse.

JUNK

new in July 2020. worked great for 2 summers here which is about 6 months total. had to call service tech to come figure out why it would dehumidify. He had to put 25oz of 410a in it as it has a leak somewhere. So $260 later (would've probably been a lot more if my cousin didn't have his own company) it is working again but for how long? I called company, just got the run around about how the contractor needs to tear machine down and figure out exactly where leak is coming from then they will send part. To me they should send the whole dang compressor since its leaking. I'm not ever buying honeywell again, I also have a steam humidifier from them installed the same time and it doesn't work either. It's probably cheaper to throw them away and get a different brand then to have someone come numerous times troubleshooting and installing various parts they send. what a joke.

I Will Never Buy Another Honeywell Product

I have a DR90 less than 5 yrs old that has worked well until this year. My HVAC company has diagnosed it in need of a Defrost Thermostat (Honeywell part number 50070294-002). Honeywell no longer supplies the part - OBSOLETE - and there is no substitution part. Machine will not function without it. I have checked over 20 suppliers - including Supply House - and there is no solution. I also had three Honeywell Tru-Steam Humidifiers that failed and were finally replaced by Honeywell after a class action suit. I will never buy another Honeywell product.

Honeywell does not honor warranty when self-installed.

Jan 2018: Purchased/installed: --The unit initially had a strong odor/vocs due to what looked like neoprene insulation inside. --The 10" duct collars were smaller than the nominal 10" making it a little awkward attaching the ducts. Spring 2019: Compressor would not run due to a bad relay which I found online and replaced. Fall 2020: Refrigeration system now has insufficient capacity. ie: The compressor & fan both run but inlet and outlet temps are the same and no condensation is produced no matter how long it runs. Spring 2021: --Talked to Supply House and it's outside their return period. --Called Honeywell and they will not honor their warranty when self-installed. "It's a product only intended to be installed by professionals." A better approach might be to send a professional out to determine if it is installed correctly and in fact defective. If it is indeed found defective then Honeywell covers all costs. If improperly installed the homeowner should pay all costs. Late spring 2021: If I thought the Honeywell was a decent unit I might push a little harder to have it replaced. That being said, I'm now enjoying my new Aprilaire 1870 from Supply House. Maybe Aprilaire will honor their warranty should it come to that.

So far, so good...

I purchased this unit to replace a DR90 2000 series that died because of a bad compressor. So far, the unit has run smoothly, reducing the relative humidity in our home from a damp 60-70% to a much more comfortable 40% within the first week of use. My only reason for the one star drop is the absence of louvers on the small intake. For some reason, the 3000 series did not include built-in louvers to close off the small intake (which were present on the 2000 series). But a little duct tape took care of the problem.

Not Dependable - 2nd Unit Failure

First DR90 was in service for a year and unit quit condensing, probably lost its charge. Did all the trouble shooting with Honeywell and they replaced the unit because the unit was not serviceable. New configuration of DR90 was serviceable. PexSupply, now SupplyHouse, was great. It also worked for a year and similarly quit condensing. Now the unit is out of waranty. Soon I will drop the unit, it is hanging from the ceiling, and take to see exactly what the problem is. IF I have to replace....I will NOT be getting a Honeywell, but will get it from SupplyHouse.

Try something else.

This unit removes moisture as advertised but it is very noisy. You can hear the loud hum even though I went to a lot of effort to put it on a cement pad. It quit working after 13 months and Honeywell was NOT cooperative when it came to sharing info on troubleshooting or repairs. (I am a owner/builder with lots of experience). Here is where SupplyHouse really shines. They honored the manufacturers warranty and replaced the unit for me. They have always been great to work with. I retrofitted my house with Pex and got all of my supplies from them. Thank you, SupplyHouse!!

dehumidfies

The unit came well--packaged and undamaged. Installation was fairly straightforward (with help from a friend who knew what he was doing). So far the unit has not been able to get the humidity in the house down quite as low as I had hoped. We were at about 70%; took a few days to get down to about 50%. I was hoping for closer to 40% but have not seen that level yet. The unit keeps getting moisture out of the air, but I have not seen the humidity get lower than about 50%. Our house (basement and main floor) may be a bit too large for this unit; we'll see.

Kevin, This unit is designed to be installed in duct work, and dehumidify the entire house. This unit will have a coverage of 2800 sq. ft., so you may want to consider a larger unit.

Yes we do recommend a professional install such units. This unit does not come with a thermostats and a controller would be needed to operate the unit. The instructions are available on our site and would also be shipped with the unit. There is no current data regarding the annual cost to run the unit.

This is a whole-house dehumidifier that is designed to be installed in duct work and dehumidify the entire house. The $300-$400 units are likely plug-in models that control smaller spaces and require manual draining.
