12 gal. Honeywell Steam Humidifier & RO Filter Kit

This is not my first of these units. They work extremely well, when they are working. My experience is that the units are not robust (i'm on #3), with their electronics going bad over time. My recent experience tells me that their quality control is slipping bad also - the newest unit and the supplied RO unit both failed upon installation. Honeywell customer service is non-existent, so don't call them. Fortunately parts are available, and if you purchase the unit from an outstanding supplier, like Supplyhouse.com, they stand by their sales and work with you with repair or replacement, until everything is running OK. If this was a rating for Supplyhouse.com, it would be a 5 stars.

Reservoir overflow is a big problem

I've had the HM612A1000 installed by a professional technician in my home for one year and the hot water overflows the reservoir and I have to hang a bucket below the unit to keep the floor from becoming soaked. I cannot find a inflow control to adjust it. PLEASE SEND A SERVICE PERSON.

Unfortunately we do not have a network of technicians or service people to refer. You may want to contact Honeywell's Truesteam hotline directly at 800-814-9452.

we will see if this one is better

SupplyHouse has been GREAT,a real pleasure to do business with, that being said the first TruSteam I owned only lasted one season then broke, SupplyHouse sent a replacement a different model in which according to Honeywell all the bugs have been worked out. The new TruSteam has only been installed for about 2 weeks and it works great,I only hope it continues to do so!!

Working well so far

I had a previous model, TrueSTEAM HM512W1005, installed in 2011. Since I was clueless on what was going on - it experienced 'delayed maintenance'. When I finally got around to checking on it after a season or two, there was a LOT of mineral buildup in the bottom of the thing. Also - i noticed the plastic was all discolored, most likely from prolonged heat exposure. Mineral buildup was all over the heating element. Fixing the temp sensor made no difference, so I bought this updated version - which also has the RO filter. I just finished swapping the humidifiers out last night. Was fairly easy to do, since I could look back and forth between the new and old to figure out how to disassemble/assemble. I'm still a little concerned that the bottom part of the humidifier is HOT. I started out at 14% humidity, so I do expect it to run most of the time, but it doesn't seem like it needs to keep the heating element running. We're up to 25% now. We'll see how long this one lasts - I'll be much more vigilant than the first time around. Will be calling Honeywell to make sure it is operating correctly. Other than the too-hot-to-touch part, was easy to swap in. Look forward to less minerals with the RO filter in place.

The good, bad, and the ugly

The good: The cleanest option for humidity. No standing water, which eliminates mold issues. I have had my unit for over 5 years. It keeps 3500 sq ft at 33%. The unit rarely shuts off during cold weather. I really need 2 units. Wished they had a larger unit. The bad: Installation time advertised was a lie! It will take a pro a couple hours to install. After 5 years the water tank is showing hairline cracks. I should buy a new unit next heating season due to heavy use. The ugly: If you have bad water or minerals such as iron you will have problems! Fix your water issues first! After your water is fixed, get the osmosis filter add on. You may think this is overkill but it is not. Overall, this system is the best I can find without the harm or mold that could be an issue with the other non-steam humidifiers. Until they develop a better technology for whole house humidifiers this appears the best option.
