  • Go-No-Go Gauge (5 in 1)

    Q:

Does this Go/No Go gauge work with both the copper and stainless crimp rings?

      A:

Not really. I have found that the stainless crimp rings don't always fit
into the gauge even through I have never had any problems or leaks with
the crimps. The copper rings fit into the gauge perfectly when I use the
exact same crimp tool. This may be an issue with the old crimp tool that
I am using, but I have pretty much switched to using the copper rings
      exclusively.

      A:

These type of gauges only work with copper crimp rings. You know that a stainless clamp connection was made correctly if the tool releases.

  • Go-No-Go Gauge (5 in 1)

    Q:

On this type of go/no go gauge (which has only one slot for each fitting size), how do I tell if the crimp is good? If the fitting goes halfway into the slot, but not the entire way? No-go is marked on the interior part of the slot...

      A:

If the ring goes halfway into the slot, the crimp is good. If it goes all the way in or not at all, then it's not good.

    What is go/no go?

It is a tool used to check a crimp fitting in order to make sure the fitting was made correctly.

When there has to be a minimum thickness and a maximum thickness, sometimes they use a go-no go gauge. The gauge has a thinner part and a thicker part. When the thinner part of the gauge goes between the two parts, it meets the minimum distance requirement. When the thicker gauge can not go between the two parts, means the distance between the two parts is less than the maximum distance allowed, since it goes with the thinner gauge and not with the thicker gauge, it is between the minimum and maximum thickness and is an acceptable clearance. These are like feeler gauges, except the go-no go gauges have two feeler gauges that are different thickness on the same feeler gauge.
