In this instance I had manually built a 6 zone radiant floor system without zone valves due to budget constraints. After a season in service the system developed a leak in the slab. I had to isolate the 6 zones, in and out sides with ball valves. I choose crimp/clamp pex due to space restrictions on the valve install. There was no room for Uponor fittings. After install the leak was found and that zone abandoned.
As a Professional Auto Repair Tech of 45 years, and a plumber for 20, I have used Zurn or Watts type crimp clamps on thousands of Bosch Fuel systems with total reliability, and this was true again with pex.

The clamps are so loose that they are hard to hold in place when you start to cinch them down. I also find it hard to get the pincer I use to cinch/crimp them down started. The neck/tab on the ring has an angle of less than 90 degrees that makes the pincer want to slip off. I have used other brands where the ring is a little tighter to start with and the tab is more than 90 degrees (almost like somebody already started to cinch it down) and I find them much easier to use.

I found this product to not work well. The clamps kept breaking when tightened. This did not happen with the last batch of 1/2" clamps i pirchased so perhaps these were defective?

These rings seem to be slightly more flexible and less prone to snapping during clamping than the ones found in local home improvement stores. Highly reccomended.

I am not familiar with that tool, but it appears to be similar to the Watts
Model WPCCT-6 Ratchet CinchClamp Tool, which I use all the time and is THE top of the line...
I will say that I have used many of these clamps, and never had a failure...
They work first time every time, make sure your tool is adjusted correctly.

      A:

Assuming that we are talking about a clamp for tubing like PEX or hose then
the clamp is measured the same way the tubing is. PEX is ½ inch inside
diameter and 5/8 inch on the outside. The clamp is designed to slip over
and then compress the outside diameter. I have used these on vinyl hose with
a 5/8 O.D with success although that is not what these are designed for.

    • VERIFIED BUYER

      A:

Crimp rings and clamps for PEX are normally sold by the nominal tubing size.
so a 1/2" clamp is made and sold for 1/2" nominal CTS (copper tube size) or 5/8 od tubing and is slightly more than 5/8 id before crimping

      Answered on 12/5/2013 by Anonymous
    • VERIFIED BUYER

      A:

The pipe is 1/2" ID so I would imagine the clamp, when clamped, is between
      5/8" and 3/4" ID.

Yes. You would also need an H020500 adapter ( http://www.pexsupply.com/HydroPEX-H020500-1-2-PEX-x-1-2-Copper-Pipe-Brass-Adapter-3752000-p ). You will need to clamp on the PEX side and sweat on the copper.

It is used to attach certain brands of pex to barbed copper fittings. There are fittings that use this crimp to attach pex to copper tubing.

    • VERIFIED BUYER

      A:

No! These clamps will only work on the Pex pipe. You will need to use a sharkbite type fitting or a sweat on Pex adapter to make that transition!

    • VERIFIED BUYER

      A:

I don't think that would work well.
If you do get the tube on a pipe it probably wouldn't hold
      because the pipe is smooth.
it's to be used on PEX couplings.
