Description

The VT2218 is a temperature sensing, variable speed circulator ideal for Delta-T or setpoint temperature applications. Typical uses include hydronic systems zoned with zone valves, radiant loops, injection pumping, snowmelt or hydro-air fan coils. Can also be used in constant speed mode for zoning with circulators, indirect water heaters or primary boiler loops.

The VT2218 is whisper quiet and has a big, bright LCD screen that's easy on the eyes. Simple push-button navigation lets you set the pump to any one of five modes quickly and easily. But what you can't see is just as important: our innovative Bio Barrier protects the rotor and bearings from system contaminants.

The Viridian VT2218 can slash fuel bills by hundreds of dollars. Its companion, the Zone Sentry zone valve, draws up to 93% less energy, uses fewer components, and can handle up to 12 valves per standard 40 VA transformer. When it comes to zone valves, the Zone Sentry is the smartest decision you can make.

Very Good Pump but not great.

I have had this pump installed for about a year. I purchased it for the delta-T function and used it for that at first but not now. There are 2 reasons. One, it produces an irritating vibration at high speeds during ramp up. Two, the program timing that sets the speed (to get delta-T) seems to do its calculations while dropping the speed but the cycle is too short so that speed tends to drop too low before the system can equilibrate. Then it has to go through the ramp up to full speed and slowly drop again to recalculate the speed to get the delta-T. Does this constantly. My opinion is that it should just adjust based on a simple feed-back of delta-T with a longer cycle (so it doesn't porpoise) rather than automatically go through the ramp up to full speed first. My wishlist is: One, since it has the Temperature sensors why not display the S and R temps all the time? Would be very useful. Two, can't you calculate the approx. pump flow based on the current, (oh and display it) ? approximate flow is also very, very useful. Pump Quality is very good, but not great. Needs one more design iteration. I would recommend it as a pump in general, but you should expect to use the other pumping options rather than the delta-T.

v1.0

o As quiet as 007 at speed 1 and 2 speed, louder at 3 and 4 o Pump should have max speed setting. Otherwise it causes velocity noise. o On long loop (~200ft), pump speeds up/slows down too quickly causing 'cold water sandwitch' which causes it to speed up and slow down. o Pump appears to run too slowly when S and R are about the same causing return to cool off too much (again, probably due to long loop) In summary I'd probably recommend it for shorter loops and I wish that it had min/max speed settings to address some of the shortcommings.

I would purchase again

Purchased this to replace our old (5 year old) Delta T. We use this for our radiant heat with 5 difference zones. Easy replacement and set up. Would purchase again.

Works great for my application

Added a second zone to my 60 year old hot water hydronic boiler, convector baseboards and didn't want to worry about pushing too much water through one zone when the other was closed, what I really like about this pump is that is starts off slow and speeds up so I no longer get that water hammer noise it use to do, I've also added smart thermostats in both zones, works great as intended, no over or under shoot on the temp, really very happy the way this turned out, and it's been in the 30's here in New York so all in all fantastic.

The VT2218 as a Dedicated System Circulator

We have integrated the VT2218 as a dedicated system circulator into our "Enhanced Convection, Differential Temperature Managed Hydronic Heating Appliance" (Patents Pending - USA & Canada). Whereas Tradesmen are typically using it as a circulator upgrade (as it truly is) in a variety of hydronic heating applications, our effort utilizes its capacity in a simple, durable and efficient residential FHW System with superlative results. We slogan it as "putting an 'Automatic Transmission' on a boiler", that it truly is. Our "Beta Site" systems now have aggregated over twenty (20) system-years of operation with no issues. Can't say enough of this new "tool" in our case ..... !

Delta T not useful for radiant floors

The delta T temp set point can't be set lower than 5 degrees, this makes it not usable in heated floor applications. The five degree delta causes the pump to slow down to much and results in hot and cold spots in the floor surface which is very easy to feel with your feet. Also the low speed setting is to slow and can't over come the head pressure from the tubing so it doesn't flow thus the pumps temp sensors don't see the temp increase/change and never kick up speed...good pump other then that.

Can't belive difference from Taco 0010

This variable speed pump is a huge upgrade from an old Taco 0010. It's like going from an automatic vehicle with one gear to a manual/auto hybrid performance vehicle with several gears. It's a lot quieter even at the highest speed than the Taco 0010 and seems to get the water flowing real well.

Expecting great service

Just installed this pump on the secondary loop of my recently up graded system. I'm using it in Delta - T mode. My boiler just got a lot more efficient!

issue after power loss

I used it for an outdoor boiler line to the house, and 2 things: it reported an over temperature and shut down, probably due to the pump being next to the hot water jacket. Hopefully fixed by putting insulation between it and the water jacket. second issue: when we left the circulator in full speed, constant power mode with the temperature sensors disconnected, and it was fine. When we shut off the power to the circulator for some service work, and turned it back on, it went into delta T mode and reported an error because the temp sensors weren't connected. it then wouldn't restart without programming. this seems like a design oversight. we had similar issues with the old bumblebee circulator, in that if a sensor became disconnected, the circulator wouldn't run, resulting in a building freeze. it seems like the default should be to run at low speed or something besides "off". I like this circulator more than the bumblebee, but it's not perfect yet.

A truly revolutionary hydronic product.

We have participated with Taco in grooming their Delta-T ECM Variable Speed Circulator products for several years and have varied, multiple "Beta Sites" operational and performing beautifully! Now marketing the Package Delta-T ECM Hydronic System (TM) (Patent Pending) as a virtual "stand-alone" Heating Appliance, an industry first.
