Solved a zone heating problem

I was having trouble with a zone keeping up for many years on in floor heat at my house. I wanted to balance 3 loops on one Uponor manifold. These were easy to install, adding them to the return manifold. My pex tubing was long enough to be able to use without cutting or tampering with in any way. I just threaded each end, one to the pex, the other to the manifold and away we went. Once installed the directions were straight forward enough and I just had to experiment with which loop was the longest and started there. Adjustment's were easy and I am happy with the results. The original installers had never balanced the zone or at least not properly. I can easily fine tune it using the visual indicators.

Love these things

I am very happy my boiler tech installed fittings off the end of my zone manifold that enabled me to install these at a future time. Well the time came 12 years later when our boiler failed and the zones went out of wack. After installing these, balancing was a cinch. Now my system works to specs again.

Q: I have a different manifold. Can I adapt this meter to be used simply in a 1/2" pex line?

It could be adapted. You would need two compression fittings A4020500 and one R20 nipple A4322020.

Yes, they are designed to thread between the manifold itself and the QS fittings which attach to the tubing.

Q: I have my manifold installed upside down as the loops are from above. Will this flow meter work upside down?

the Tru FLOW Meter may be installed in a vertical or horizontal position. Do not install the Tru FLOW Visual Flow Meter upside-down (arrow pointing downward) as it will affect the accuracy of the reading

Q: I read that you read the flow on the top where the spring meets the yellow piece but then how would you read the lower flow rates? The top of the yellow plastic starts at .6? How then would you read a flow between .25 and .6? Doesn't make sense.

You may want to consider Uponor's A2640015 flow meter, which offers smaller flow increments.

You would have to get a different flow meter. One that reads smaller flow amounts.

Q: Can I put this meter any place in my hydronic system, and will it read accurately when placed in series with 3/4 pipe?

This meter is designed for use on the Uponor Truflow Manifold systems, and uses R20 threading. You would have to adapt from R20 to NPT or sweat to install this unit elsewhere in the system.
