Problem solved
Ao smith vortex water heater was telling me the blower prover switch was opening out of sequence.....which was causing the heating cycle to shut down and i was running out of hot water! I replaced with this switch which looks exactly the same as the one i pulled out......and presto! No more problem.

IT WORKS, AND IT CAME IN TWO DAYS
This pneumatic switch attaches to the blower pressure to close a switch. When the blower stops the switch is supposed to open again. However, if a tiny bug or piece of dirt gets into the hose and blows into the tiny orifice in the entrance to the switch it can plug it causing it to fail. Now I have a spare for next time this happens!
