The WH-7 lists the SmartControl (SKU: 940R101) and this dial aquastat as two separate accessories, but both are compatible with that model.
Larry, I had this part fail on my water tank, which would cause it to always indicate that the water needed to be heated. When I replaced it, it did not require draining the tank or anything special. There is an access panel on the bottom that I removed to gain access to where the thermometer was inserted to the water tank (center bottom). You will have to unscrew the retaining bolt (you can see the new one on the catheter in the picture next to the knob unit) and slide out the old bulb. When I put in the new one, I just slid it in all the way then tightened the nut down so it was snug. I wasn't sure if tightening too hard would crush the catheter or not, so I figured I would just leave it snug. That was it, probably 5 minutes from start to end. I hope this helps. -Nate
you dont drain the tank simple as unthreading the old sending rod and reattaching the wires took me no tinme at all
Larry it's that simple -carefully insert all the way and backout a little (1/4") and snug the nut to hold in place. Best if you can bend the bulb sensing line about 1" from the bulb so the bulb makes contact inside the tube on the hot water tank. (careful not to kink). I also had to change the relay and the gasket on bottom of tank which required tank draining for the gasket. (gasket was leaking). Relay has been updated and is an excellent replacement. A screw holds the knob on the thermostat.
It would still be looked at as another zone, as any indirect water heater would be.
