Flushing Gas-Fired Water Heater
I used this 3/4" Lead-Free Nipple along with a 3/4" Full Port Threaded Ball Valve (Lead Free) to flush debris from a water heater. The original drain valve was not a full port valve and kept plugging as I attempted to flush the sediment & scale from the water heater. After allowing the heater to cool-down, I replaced the old drain valve using just 4-components: 1.) 3/4" nipple, 2.) 3/4" full port ball valve, 3.) garden hose adapter and 4.) hose cap. Worked great and the water heater is no longer banging, making for one happy client.

Extremely BAD QUALITY
A simple look at the machining of the threads will reveal several defects when manufactured. I would completely avoid this brand of nipple. I bought five and four are junk. Supply House needs to get this supplier up to an Acceptable Level of Quality, or get a different supplier.

Good product, with a recurring issue
This is a great company, and the ordering experience couldn't be any better. Everything I've received from them has been fine, except for these. I needed one in the odd 2 1/4" length. The one I received had wrench marks on it and remnants of blue thread tape on both threaded ends. Looked like a customer return. Called for a replacement, and they cheerfully sent me another. The second one had wrench marks and remnants of blue tape on both threaded ends. Called a third time, the male rep I spoke with was frankly… cranky. He did agree to send a replacement, but I asked if he would partner with his fulfillment team to make sure I wouldn't receive another used one. He said he would. The third one I received had wrench marks and remnants of blue tape on both threaded ends. Unless you're good with previously-installed 2 1/4" brass nipples, I wouldn't recommend these until someone at Supplyhouse removes these customer returns from the bin.

We get brass nipples from local plumbing suppliers. They don't have the added 1/4" sizes. so when we found your odd sizes we were very happy, because sometimes you NEED THAT extra 1/4". We use them for body sprays and steam units.

I hadn't heard of this place before, probably because I'm a DIY guy that doesn't remodel bathrooms often. SupplyHouse.com has a huge selection, and they had the one size brass nipple I needed. Shipping was surprisingly quick too.

Q: You don't give the overall length. I need a 1/2" by 5/8" length close brass nipple. Do you have that dimension? Or do all close nipples have an overall 1 1/8” length?
