That would be fine for what you are doing. Black pipe is fine in boiler applications, as they oxygen is boiled out . Be sure to bleed air off the top of radiators after opening system. Then again in a month or so.
Of course. Just don't use black pipe, it will corrode.
Black pipe should not be used for a boiler drain; black pipe is designed for gas. Galvanized pipe should work, but a stainless steel nipple of the same size would be better and would not be very expensive in that size.
The 1 1/2 on the GN-0715 refers to the length of the entire nipple (threaded and un-threaded section).
