Description

1 month UV Protection layer

Please Note: PEX tubing is unstable under UV light. To ensure the long term stability of PEX, care must be taken to avoid overexposing the product to sunlight, both before and after the time of installation.

Bluefin PEX-b pipe is produced with crosslinked polyethylene. Crosslinking is obtained through a chemical process that increases the bonds between macromolecules to form a more complex structure than the normal polyethylene. Due to the crosslinking, the polyethylene's performance is greatly enhanced and maintains the excellent properties of thermoplastics. Offering excellent corrosion resistance, incredible flexibility and unusual toughness, Bluefin PEX-b pipe allows for fast and easy installation.

Good Product and Easy to work with.

Pricing is higher that some on the internet...may want to work on pricing. Good product and SupplyHouse.com is an awesome company to deal with!!

Most Liked Negative Review

No

The Bluefin PEX is very stiff and will not relax from being coiled. That becomes an issue between un-support horizontal spans where you want to maintain a slope to be able to drain the line completely. It might be acceptable in other applications, but not for this one. I am sending it back. The PEX-A Uponor (Wirsbo) is far easier to work with and that is what we will be using from this point on.

Great Product

I use this while doing repairs on RVs. Only thing I don't like is that it does not like to straighten out when cold. Leave it in the sun for a bit and it is much easier to work with.

This size is a terrible, terrible product

The 1" pex b is incredibly stiff and not appropriately thermoplastic. It retains the memory of the coil even after being straightened and eventually curls again. Even after applying heat with a heat gun. Very disappointed.

Robert, No, most PEX is not rated for long term exposure to UV. It's recommended that you cover it, so it is not exposed.

You would want to use a Pex tubing with an oxygen barrier. An example would be SKU: SKU: 075-300-OXY.

Q: What are the Maximum and MINIMUM operating temperatures for this tubing? I know one might first think that Minimum temperature would be anything above freezing but what is the minimum temperature rating assuming an anti freeze solution prevents the water/fluid from freezing?

This is rated for 180 degrees F at 100 Psi. It is rated at 73.4 degrees F at 160 Psi. The minimum would be determined by the antifreeze protection added.

Q: Mice and Pex, I am thinking about switching from Copper to pex but I am concerned about rodents and mice eating through the pex. I know it can happen what is the likely hood and how can I prevent it other then extermination? Is there anything I can do in the installation process to discourage gnawing on the pex, some type of chemical coating or insulation?

I have never seen it happen yet.

We have a small cottage in Ontario. A porcupine or ground hog chewed quite a few holes in the pex that is in the crawlspace. I have not heard of mice chewing pex, though.

Q: Does anyone know if PEX tubing can be installed in the same floor joist knock-out as existing romex? Thanks!

yes but usually romex is a smaller hole

I think this is a question for your inspector as these rules seem to vary depending upon local codes. A call to the local building dept may be in order. If it were me, I would provide some protection where it passes through the joist and is in contact with the romex because the pex may move with the different temperatures and rub.
