This product suffers from a serious design defect

The magnesium rod is not in electrical contact with the grounded shell of the water heater. The nipple should not be a thin shell that is subject to collapsing. Nor should there be a plastic piece separating the nipple from the magnesium. The nipple should be 1 1/8 hex stainless steel so that you can put a box wrench or socket wrench on it and it should extend all the way to the magnesium anode, in the same way that anode rods that fit in a separate tapping do.
