Q: I have a Burnham 130000 BTU input, 108,000 D.O.E. Heat Cap. My home is 1766sqft. Seems to heat the home fine and quick, but is it to high of an output? your calculator suggest 59000 btu range. Could I replace my old-leaking 1997 boiler with this Alpine?

In a house that size, 61 BTUs per square foot does sound high. Our BTU Calculator gives good estimates, but we'd recommend a heat loss calculation if you want a precise figure based on the specifics of your home. Simply going by the existing boiler is not always a good idea, as it may have been oversized. Plus, your home may be able to retain heat more effectively if you've made any upgrades to windows, insulation, etc. over the years.

Q: I live at 6700 feet above sealevel. Will I need to derate the boiler for natural gas at this high altitude or is there a way to program the boiler?

There are three versions of this boiler: sea level - 2,000 feet, 2,000 - 7,000 feet, and 7,000 - 10,000 feet. You would need the second one (full model number ALP080F-2L27).

Condensing boilers are more efficient; they adjust their output to outdoor weather conditions. This results in 90%-96% efficiency versus the 80%-87% rate of standard boilers. This leads to significant energy savings, but also waste products that must be drained from the system.

The price for the Alpine 80 with the wall mount is $2,898.95. It has a 10 year warranty on the heat exchanger, 1 year on parts and labor is not included. We are not familiar with the Lochinvar M80. However, the Lochinvar KBN080 costs $2,799.95 and has a 12 year limited warranty on the heat exchanger and 1 year on the parts.
