The ESBE VTC thermic valve is a thermostatic by-pass valve which regulates the temperature of either the supply out or the return of water in a hydronic heating system. In a conventional application, the VTC valve safeguards non-condensing boilers against corrosion from condensation that would result if a minimum flue gas temperature is not maintained. With the VTC the boiler is able to recover and keep up with the drop in water temperature. The VTC valve can also be used on a solid fuel boiler or a solar application where a minimum or maximum water temperature is trying to be maintained.

A must have for all wood boilers
I had the old style Danfoss in service which was starting to go beyond its years. I wasn't crazy about the idea that they no longer supply parts for the old style, but I do see the new design reduces the replacement parts cost and is much more responsive compared to the old model. I am making hot water much more efficiently now without over-temping the boiler. The size is slightly different, but my screw piping arrangement flexed into the new valve without any modifications.

So much better than the old one
We used this to replace one of the old ESBE thermal boiler bypass tees that just wasn't opening anymore and replacement elements are no longer available. Hardest part was getting the piping adjusted as the new one has slightly different dimensions (~1/4" longer one way and ~1/4" shorter the other). It is also mounted in an iron pipe installation, so that wasn't any fun. BUT, apart from the installation issues, (not the gadgets fault) it worked great. Turned it on and for a few minutes, it was obvious that all the heat was recirculating to the boiler. As the boiler heated up, the heat began to move toward the load without letting the boiler cool. Sweet!
5 stars for a new installation, 4 stars for a retrofit due to the dimensions being different from the old ones, a design oversight in my view.
