The brass part of the union is fine however the copper has not been cleaned properly. I added 3 union to a project and all 3 had a leaked took them all apart and notice a little ring around each on the copper side. Took me about two hours to fix the problem by sanding the ring off on each one; so that it would be smooth and would have a good proper seal.

These unions are extremely hard to stop leaking. You have to lube up and tighten the heck out of them. When you think you can't/shouldn't tighten more, if it's still leaking, you do need to tighten more! Unions are nice because you are able to repair plumbing without cutting/unscrewing everything, but if a union is so tight like this (and God forbid in a somewhat hard to tighten location) then it kind of defeats the purpose...
