Description

Gas and oil heating appliances generate heat through the combustion of fuel. The heat is transferred through the heat exchanger and distributed to the conditioned space. The products of combustion, however, must be vented safely out of the structure. In a conventional chimney, venting is achieved by the natural lifting action of the hot combustion gas. New, efficient systems absorb more of the heat in the heat exchanger and produce lower temperature vent gas. Lower temperature gas does not rise as quickly or as reliably as in older, less efficient systems. Power venting or sidewall venting is more economical and safer than chimney venting. A power venter uses a motorized blower to vent the products of combustion. A power venter is interlocked with the appliance to ensure that proper draft is achieved before the appliance burner is activated.

Features
  • Patented SWG or ComboVent Power Venters are ETL and cETL listed for all LP gas, natural gas, or oil-fired heating equipment. The SWG or ComboVent combines the motor, blower, and vent hood in one complete, easy to install unit. The SWG mounts on the outside of the building and pulls the combustion gases from the appliance through the outside wall utilizing 100% negative pressure. Benefits of the SWG or ComboVent Power Venter include:
  • 100% negative pressure in the vent pipe for maximum safety.
  • Standard galvanized pipe can be used instead of expensive stainless steel.
  • No need to seal vent pipe joints, saving time and money.
  • Significantly longer vent lengths than positive pressure, direct vent systems.
  • The SWG or ComboVent is recommended by major heating appliance manufacturers.
  • The SWG or ComboVent must be sized to match the appliance or appliances' input firing rate. Most firing rates are published in the manufacturer's installation manual. The SWG and ComboVent must be installed with a CK Control Kit to ensure proper listing and safe, efficient venting.

Excellent Replacement for SWGII 4HD

Product was purchased to replace a Field Controls SWGII-4" (non-stainless) unit in my New England home. Although I performed regular maintenance on the old unit, it simply could not stand up to the humidity. The housing and hardware rusted out so badly that I could not continue to service it after five years of service. If you are living in a humid environment and/or near the sea, you definitely want to spend the extra dollars on this stainless version. This stainless unit was essentially a direct replacement for my old one - the only difference I noted was that the external mounting plate that you screw to the wall was larger on the new unit, so if you are replacing an older unit that "just fit", you will likely need to conduct some minor sheet metal modifications. The cover for the motor/blower housing is updated with more modern look, but had no effect on installation. Other than that, the tube dimensions, connectors, and wiring were all the same dimensions as the old unit. Once installed, this new unit was so quiet (compared to my old one anyway) that I had to go outside to check if it was even running, because I could not tell standing next to it in my basement.

Field Controls packaging isn't designed for UPS shipping.

Field Controls power vent packaging is flimsy and inadequate. It is definitely not suitable for re-shipping by SupplyHouse.com. My unit arrived quickly but the BX power supply cable was almost severed by the stainless steel backer plate. The cable was still stuck to the backer plate when I removed the unit from the box. I performed a continuity test on the wires to make sure they weren't cut or abraided - they were ok. The unit was an exact replacement so it fit easily into the existing hole. When the unit turned on the first time it made a terrible screeching noise. The small aluminum discharge fan was rubbing on the housing, and the fan wheel was also rubbing against the separation plate. I attribute this to getting bounced around in the box during shipping. I also noted that the fan motor was not evenly secured to the housing. The rubber grommets for sound dampening were not evenly compressed which tilted the fan shaft. I had to re-install the unit twice to get the motor and fan running properly. Lesson learned: inspect your new fan carefully before removing the old one from the house.

Great purchase experience

This is not the first purchased I have made with SupplyHouse and certainly not the last. They are super quick on shipping, prices are reasonable and the product comes with no issues. What else can you ask for? Thanks for getting the power vent out to me quickly - went in without an issue and works great! Nice upgrade from the original which was not stainless.

I am very satisfied with this product.

I exchanged my old power venter for a new one because it was rusty. The new one works very well, it's quiet, and fits perfectly. The four screw holes were placed differently than the ones in my previous power venter, but it's not that big of a deal.

Q: How do we turn this unit on and off? is it somehow connected to HWH tank, so that when the burning starts triggers this unit to start working?

Typically, this is connected to a control box, sold separately. When there is a call for heat, for the burner to run, the control box triggers the power Venter to run. As soon as the control establishes the Venter is running, the burner(also connected to the control) is triggered to start. Peter Watson Watson Research

I installed it a few years ago but I believe you just screw the oversized square piece into the outside wall. Attaches with 4 screws. Screw holes are visible in picture. There is no bracket. Brian

This vent unit attaches through the wall. There is a nail / screw hole in each corner of the square metal flange to attach it to the outside wall.

Yes. There is another panel for the inside of the house, where you basically sandwich the venter and the inside bracket together. There will be a hollow space around the pipe going through the wall. Directions are easy to follow and as a home DIY'r, I did this replacement in less than an hour. Be sure to put a few drops of oil in the "oil here" spots under the outside cover before you finalize the install, and to oil it annually to ensure proper working order. Good luck!

The bracket is attached to the power venter. It is shown in the picture as the square stainless steel plate. It also comes with a thin plate to put on the other side of the wall once installed. You mount it to the wall using the 4 holes already punched into the steel plate
