The ICM517A is a NEMA Type 4X enclosed Type 2 Surge Protective Device (SPD) designed to protect valuable single-phase equipment by dissipating momentary voltage spikes and transient power surges. Applications include the protection of motors, electronics, air conditioning systems, appliances, refrigeration, and more.
The tried and true, preexisting industry favorite ICM517 SPD recently received an update, which prompted the designation of an “A” to the end of the preexisting part number. With 100,000’s of ICM517’s installed in the field, ICM stayed true to the rugged & reliable design of the existing “go to” SPD, the new ICM517A Type 2 Surge Protective Device is now constructed even more robust.

Best Surge suppressor
I have installed many other models and brands in residential HVAC/R systems. This ICM517a is the best 240vac single ph. I have used. I have installed at least 200 of the older ICM517 (non A) and close to 100 of this ICM517A model which has all served my customer systems well and have never had any issues. Note that it has 2 black, 1 green, and 1 white for neutral which I cap off when used in applications such as 5 Ton residential condensers that don't use a neutral supply line.
