it might not be the prettiest one...
Excellent replacement for the old Hg Honeywell Round - we wanted to get rid of ours while taking advantage of the government's $5 credit program. I bought a new Honeywell Round and it didn't work. Honeywell's enclosed literature included a piece of paper that said "Do not return to store - call [number] for assistance". When I did so I went through the typical round of electronic simulated voice navigation and after about fifteen minutes managed to speak with a tech who told me to check the voltage on my system. I did so but since my old multimeter had died I couldn't do it while the tech was still on the line... After another trip to the store and the long-delayed purchase of a new multimeter, I found the voltage was spot-on. After that I decided not to bother with the telephone; I felt certain that my local store would honour their commitment to their customers should I decide to return a defective product. I was correct in thinking thus - I returned to the store and got a replacement. Lo and behold, that one didn't work either. The store checked the batteries in both - they were fine as far as they could ascertain... I decided I'd spent enough time driving back and forth for this so I looked online and bought this Ecostat.
Good points:
-IT WORKS!
-No batteries (the non-Hg Honeywell Round has a battery)
-Very simple installation
-I like the on-off switch (the Honeywell non-Hg Round doesn't have this)
-Simpler design than the Honeywell non-Hg Round - it's a truly mechanical thermostat with some electronics, while the Honeywell non-Hg Round is entirely electronic (hence, its higher cost in environmental terms as well as being more expensive to make)
Not-so-good:
-Less elegant than the Honeywell Round but it's not something that really jumps out at us
-The push-button backlight hasn't worked on mine - we don't mind, usually when I'm attending to the thermostat the light is on anyway!
