I found that the brass cartridge is smoother and lasts longer. I use them in my own home. It is worth the extra cost. It s is hard to sell to a cost- conscious customer.

Little more expensive then the plastic cartridge, but we'll worth it!

Had previously installed a customer supplied one of these and had to give it a try for myself. Ordered x2 of these and replaced some older plastic posi temp cartridges. These went in very easy just as the plastic body counterparts. The biggest difference is the hefty, solid weight of these. Feels very quality and should last. Rebuild kits for them are available, so the rubber bits get swapped out and the body can be kept. Partnered with the Ona puller and I'm set.

I moved into a new home 6 years ago. The builder used Moen exclusively. Moen is very popular with new construction in many parts of the country. Moen will supply parts for life to the original owner of the product. Since the valve body is in the wall, one is locked into Moen for "life". I found the 1222 plastic cartridge not to last more than 3 years in Florida water and I do have a water softener. I would rather install this 1222HD / brass cartridge. It is much smoother. Time will tell.

The Moen brass cartridge is not that much more money, but so very much superior to the plastic one that comes with the valve. Supply House is the very best place to buy it.
