Description

Pre-insulated Uponor AquaPEX® (ASHRAE 90.1-2013) features flexible PEX pipe encased in polyethylene-foam insulation to insulate potable-water lines and meet ASHRAE 90.1-2013 energy-code requirements. The product is approved for use in hot and cold domestic potable water systems, residential fire safety and hydronic heating and cooling systems containing no ferrous corrodible components or where ferrous components are isolated from the piping. The product is also approved for direct burial in soil provided it is not exposed to groundwater. Uponor recommends adding 1/2" of insulation to accommodate for foam compression in direct-burial applications.

will buy again.

I put this in a cottage that has a crawl space. Very easy to work with, much easier the trying to wrap after the fact. Cost more, but worth it in the reduced labor.

Good idea, needs minor improvement

A prime use case for this stuff is chilled water retrofits in old buildings, with metal lathe stucco walls. The insulation gets all chewed up in these cases. It needs to be made with something like the K-Flex insulation so that this isn't as much of an issue, But, otherwise a great product.

What a time saver

If you need insulated Pex-A this is the product. No way it is better to insulate after installation.

Easy to work with

Used the tubing to run glycol drops to bright tanks in a beverage processing plant. Easy to use. Coil memory was minimal. Installation was quick.

I like it.

Yeah it's not cheap. but now in our area all hot water lines under the slab have to be insulated. Most of my new builds are slab on grade. This is much quicker and easier than putting on split insulation. Plus it's a better end product for the customer imo.

Easy to Install

Just completed installing 3/4" Pre-Insulated AquaPEX in my residence yesterday. Used it in 6" wide trenches cut in concrete floors in a 2000 SF home remodel.

AquaPEX tubing can be crimped. It is also compatible with expansion-style fittings. It works with standard PEX crimp fittings and requires a PEX crimping tool.

Q: Would this be sutable to be used for an outdoor wood boiler. It would go inside pvc pipe and under the frost line.

Yes, it would. Oxygen barrier tubing is useless in an open system and it's unnecessary when system components are non-ferrous.

Q: To save me guessing what type of bend supports should i use with this type of pipe?

We would recommend that you remove the insulation at the bend support locations and use 1/2" bend supports. You can try to mold the insulation back on once the supports are in place.

Q: I know Pex is not for outdoors because is not UV resistant. My question is, if I have to run a line outdoors, can I use the pre-insulated Pex to protect from the UV rays, and it would be correct to do it? (not void warranty of Pex)

Asked by Jorge 15 years ago

This pre-insulated PEX does not protect the PEX from UV exposure. We would recommend that you sleeve the PEX in PVC.
