Q: How does this attach to the wall

These are loose fitting collars. For through the floor runs, gravity holds them down. For through the wall, you can use some chalking to hold in place.

It's held in place by the pipe or tubeing that you are using. When you install the escutcheon over the tubeing use a piece of scrap first to slightly ream the holes out so it don't mark up the tubeing and makes it easer to install.Then if it still has some movement you can use some silicone or caulking that matches your wall after you did all your installation and let it set and dry for a few hrs.
