Description

What makes Onix so well suited for radiant heat and snow melting applications?
Cross-linked Durel EPDM is extruded into a tube and wrapped with an AlumaShield barrier and a second layer of EPDM. This composite tube is reinforced with 1000 denier aramid cord, the same incredibly tough and heat resistant material used to make fire and bullet proof shields. A final outer jacket of EPDM is applied. The result is a durable, flexible tubing formed of five heat and age resistant materials, proven in tens of thousands of installations over the years.
One of the best features of our Onix tubing is its aluminum barrier layer, AlumaShield+. Unlike plastic barriers, AlumaShield is unaffected by sunlight, UV radiation from fluorescent lamps, moisture, or elevated temperatures. Due to its placement inside the tube, the AlumaShield barrier can't be scraped off or damaged by typical job site abuse.
Onix is the product that can be installed with lifelong confidence in blazing heat and sunlight, or in Arctic frost and shadows. Used for commercial snowmelting, space heating, residential staple-up and supply/return lines, you'll find Onix installed in thousands of quality projects every year.

Q: would this onix tubing work for in joist flooring heat?

Any tubing can be used as a staple up but the issues you are going to face is being able to actually staple up the tubing. Most staple guns are not large enough to handle the size you are requesting. Also, because of the larger diameter ¾” onix, the minimum bend radius is 6” which means getting the tubing to a standard 8” OC will require the “light bulb” effect on the runs when turning the tubing to run back. Usually 3/8” or ½” is used because of these issues.

Q: What do you sell to attach the 1/2" Onix? In a staple up application it would seem you would need 7/8" staples.

For 1/2" Onix, you would need to use staples that are designed for 3/4" PEX. Two options you have are HTALON07 and P6BK (you would also need an appropriate staple gun with the second choice).
