The Honeywell AM-1 Lead Free accurately adjusts, maintains and limits the hot water temperature to a desired setting selected by the user. In domestic water applications it offers scalding protection and bacteria growth control. By installing a Honeywell AM-1 mixing valve and raising water heater storage temperature setting and limiting mixed outlet water temperature to safe temperature more usable hot water is available. In heating applications it provides comfort and protects the equipment. Multiple applications include heat pump systems, domestic water, nursing homes, public facilities, automatic faucets, radiant floor heating, space heating, combo systems, solar hot water, greenhouses, and industrial applications.

Works exactly as you expect it to
Mixing valve controls hot water temperature at the faucet. Prevents scalding. You forget how much you depend on it until you go to someone else's house and turn on their hot water, and are reminded just how hot it can get. Especially if you have kids or older people in the house, who can accidentally bump the shower control knob and change the temperature setting, this device is worth it.
One tip; because it mixes hot and cold water to get the right temperature, minerals dissolved in the very hot water can crystalize when the water is cooled down, and deposit minerals in the valve (if you've got hard water). My original unit gradually started delivering cooler and cooler water, as the mineral deposits built up inside. I replaced the unit (after 8 years), but when I took out the old one I realized that I probably could have cleaned out the mineral deposits and had it working right again. But they're not that expensive, so I just installed the new one.

Q: We us this valve to mix the water to our showers at a mental hosp. The hot water line is recir. so there is no wait for hot water. the hot water is soft. the water coming back on the recir line is hard. Is it possable the cold water at the mixing valve iscoing into the hot water recir line?
