Description for Taco 3196-1

The Taco Differential Bypass Valve provides an accurate and dependable means to control excess flow in zone valve systems that can be created when there is a reduction in the demand for heat.

This reduced heat demand typically occurs as zone thermostats are satisfied and their corresponding zone valves close, causing the system pump to attempt to force more water through the remaining zones.

By installing a Taco Differential Bypass Valve between the discharge of the system pump and somewhere before the inlet of the pump--usually on the system return--you create an automatically regulated flow path. This regulated flow path prevents unacceptable velocities from being pumped through the zones that remain open during reduced demand periods.

Differential Bypass Valves should also be used to prevent dead heading of the circulator in systems where parallel piped heat emitters are controlled by thermostatic radiator valves.

Features:

  • Prevents Velocity Noise While Maintaining Desgined Heat Transfer of Each Zone
  • Enhances Overall System Perofmrance
  • Brass Body, Indicator and Union Nut
  • Stainless Steel and Engineered Plastic Internals
  • Maximum Pressure: 200 PSI
  • Maximum Temperature: 200 F
  • Adjustment Range: 0 to 7.5 PSI

Can this product be installed horizontally? I.e. with the adjustment knob parallel to ground?

Yes you can. This is how I installed mine, and it works great.

      A:

Mine is. It's a spring-loaded pressure sensing valve, so the only difference
it makes it the effect of gravity on the spring. Negligible, at best.

      A:

Yes, the bypass valve can be installed horizontally. The valve body is pressure-actuated, so orientation does not matter.

Yes. Mount it in any position you want. It is spring loaded.

I'm sure it can be installed in any position. All that's in there is a spring valve. I know that because I burned one out sweating the joint and had to take it apart. ****@***.***

  • 3/4" Bypass Valve

    Q:

Just wondering if you carry a 1" version, and if this can only be attached by threaded means, or can it be attached with "sweat"?

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

Taco does not offer a 1" unit. This is a threaded unit; it must be attached as such.

You should use a fitting that has a 3/4" male thread.

  • 3/4" Bypass Valve

    Q:

If I'm using this bypass valve in conjunction with a Taco 00R-MSF1-IFC circulator in a system with 7.5 GPM flow at 7.8 ft. of head when all zone valves are open, what would be the optimal PSI setting for the 3196 bypass valve in order to manitain proper flow and prevent pump dead-heading when the zone valves are progressively beginning to close down?

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

Your system pressure should be around 12-15 PSI. The valve comes with a manual on how to set it.
