        Grundfos Alpha is Just Better

Comments about Bumble Bee Variable Speed Circulator w/ Integral Flow Check, 1/20 HP:

Nothing really wrong about this pump except for two factors that are deal breakers for me. One, it really is loud. It is. I have my radiant pumps in a utility closet off the living room, and you can hear the thing whine all the time. I replaced them with the Grundfos Alpha, which are absolutely quiet. And two, the Grundfos are about thirty bucks cheaper.

I wish I had just gone with Grundfos in the first place.

Taco pumps are great, but with the new technologies, the smart pumps like the Alpha and Bumblebee save 70% or more on the electric bill--electric is the big negative about radiant because the electric to run several zones is quiet expensive. If you live in a tier'ed billing area like I do, where the more electric you use, the higher the cost, the smart pumps can cut your electric bill in half. Mine plummeted, and now I feel great having a radiant system that is truly efficient and green.

It's a no brainer to get a smart pump. And if you care about noise and initial cost, you won't get a Bumblebee. Why are they more expensive anyway? I doubt they're made better.

Comments about Bumble Bee Variable Speed Circulator w/ Integral Flow Check, 1/20 HP:

Others here have complained about the noise. I guess if you had this installed in a living space you would barely hear it, but in a utility room it cannot be heard.

FYI pump will not spin in delta-T mode until the sensors are hooked up. Also, I had to take my pumps off the day after installation and install the included check valves - I was getting convection flow that was heating my house a couple of degrees with the pumps off - check valves fixed this.

While I had the pumps off after operating for a day, I noticed the black paint on the inside of the input housing was bubbling up but it has not detached yet. I am a little concerned about the paint coming off and sticking in the check valve.

The delta-T feature is great. Very low power consumption as the pumps are operating on the slowest speed now (it is late spring here in NJ). Am excited to see how they do in the winter months.

I use this circulator in the set point mode and that is what I bought it for . I heat with wood and do heat storage and the plan was to control the return water temp to the storage tank to get the most stratification I could and heat benifits of a storage system . The problem lies in the fact that when the pump first kicks in it runs wide open for the first 3 minutes before it starts using the set point operation by then it already has started to mix in my storage tank . I think this start up time should be user adjustable and its not . Other than that its a great circulator but it does sound like a buzzing bumble bee when it runs , No Kidding

I love the concept of this pump. But after firing it up I was disappointed how loud it was, high pitch whine. I am used to the 007 circs that are virtually silent. I called tech support and they admitted that it was loud. Also the interface to change settings is a little confusing, make sure you have the manual handy. I hope the next version sucks less.
