Works as it should

Comments about Watts 1" 174A Relief Valve (30lb):

Exact replacement for a leaking pressure relief valve on my Weil McLain boiler. Original was over 20 years old! I replaced my expansion tank durring the same service with a recommendation from a professional. Glad I did as I determined my expansion tank had a slow leak as well.

Replaced in the summer so bleeding system was much easier. Suggest a comprehensive boiler check BEFORE heating season.

Have a boiler furnace for heating the home, the pressure relief valve started to leak continuously, needed replacing, so I ordered a new one from Pex. It arrived quickly, installed the same day, and everything works as it should.

  • Q:

can the 3/4 174a relief valve(30lb.)be installed on any btu/hr. boiler but not to exceed 650,000 btu/hr.?
Asked on 1/16/2014 by reddog from greenup,il

    • VERIFIED BUYER

      A:

Yes. That 650kBTU limit is just where the boiler size dictates a larger
outlet for the Pressure Relief Valve (PRV) connection. In other words, don’t
put a reducer on your 1-inch PRV connection just so you can save a few bucks
      by using a ¾-inch PRV.

  • Q:

my current valve (same as pictured) is still leaking at approx 30 psi. I just changed the expansion tank which I believe was bad (was leaking water out of the schrader valve). Are these valves adjustable so that it will not leak, or should I just replace it? Also, can the problem be the Pressure Reducing Valve?
Asked on 11/10/2010 by Pete from NYC

    • VERIFIED BUYER

      A:

This valve is designed to open up at 30# water pressure. NOT adjustable. Look at the feed valve for your problem. If yours is circulated hot water, it should operate at around 20#. Sounds like the feed valve (fresh water supply to system) is charging your system to at or near water line pressure.

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

There is no adjustment on this valve. Your pressure reducing valve should be set around 12-25 PSI.

  • Q:

IS there a re-build kit available for this valve?
Asked on 10/8/2010 by Eric from Bellingham, WA

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

According to the manufacturer, there is not a re-build kit available.
