Verified Reply- Jerry, If you take a look at the Replacement Parts List: https://s3.amazonaws.com/s3.supplyhouse.com/product_files/AO%20Smith-BTX-100-Replacement-Part-List.pdf , you will see on Page 2, that there is an Anode Rod inside the unit.
