SmartControl w/ Thermistor, 396411

This is the 2nd Smart Controller I've replaced and it's easy. So the original that came with the Boilermate and 2 replacements in 35 years. Amtrol products last as far as I'm concerned. The only thing different about this replacement was I had to call about a code UAC that came up when I turned it on. The c.s. agent laughed and said mine was the easiest question all day because it actually was VAC, meaning vacation mode. Hit the center button and the controller got my water heater going.

I'm not a plumber or electrician or anything close. My indirect water heater died, and I had a theory as to why. I ran it by the manufacturer and they thought it was possible, and they told me the part number of the part that would need to be replaced. They told me to use Supply House. I saw reviews for the part and Supply House customers reviewed it, and it looked like it could have been a DIY project. I ordered it, it arrived, and in an hour, my water heater was back working. That was about a month ago, and it's still purring like a cat. Supply House customer service was very helpful.

I spoke w/ the company that makes the product (Amtrol, 396411 is the part number) and read reviews on supplyhouse.com for the product. And, I chatted w/ SupplyHouse staff. I'm not an electrician or plumber (am a retired public health professional), but I got enough support from the reviews and the Supply House staff chats that I had the info I thought I needed to replace the part in my water heater. The part arrived in a day and it took me about an hour to take the defective part out and install the replacement. The part was the right one; the installation was pretty easy, and the water is hot again!

Worked perfectly in my 20 + year old water heater. Better than the old unit which did not have error codes or the improved adjustability.

Replacement for 25 yo water tank

The old Smart Control was causing the system to short cycle (zone valve would open, call for heat, burner would fire for about a second, then the control would cycle, stop calling for heat then repeat). This new control fixed that problem.

All good. They sent the right part on time.

The old control would cause my oil burner to short cycle when system would call for temp increase. Some kind of internal relay issue. The original control lasted 20 years. Expensive fix but it corrected my issue. Replacement worked for Amtrol model number WH7L. I did not replace Thermistor as that was still working.
