Just Right Device for the Purpose
new hybrid HPWH not designed to operate with recirc line, so having to Know temp in various pipes to keep HPWH from malfunctioning.

Works as intended, accurate enough
We installed it on the flat of a hex fitting on a water heater outlet pipe, and used a dab of thermal compound. The gauge temperature matches the faucet outlet using a digital thermometer well within 5%. We installed it this way based on the other reviews complaining about accuracy. We figured the flat of the hex and the thermal compound should rule out any marginal thermal contact, and it appears to be working well for us.

Slow acting and not very accurate. Used to adjust hot water mixing valve. Does not work for that application.
