Description

Bluefin PPTLKIT PEX Expander Tool w/ 3/8", 1/2", 3/4", 1" Heads, Includes Tube Cutter
A manual PEX expansion tool kit designed for expanding PEX-a tubing and sleeves when making Expansion PEX (ASTM F1960) connections in residential and light commercial plumbing applications.

Key Features:
  • Manual PEX expander tool kit for PEX-a expansion connections
  • Includes interchangeable expander heads for 3/8", 1/2", 3/4", and 1" PEX
  • Tube cutter included for preparing PEX tubing
  • Designed for use with Expansion PEX fitting systems
  • Manufacturer documentation references ASTM F1960 expansion method
  • Tool body identified as galvanized aluminum in manufacturer overview

Compatibility & Applications:
  • For use with PEX-a tubing only
  • Compatible with Expansion PEX / ASTM F1960 fitting systems
  • Applicable tubing sizes: 3/8", 1/2", 3/4", and 1"
  • Must be used only in applications where the manufacturer specifies this exact part number (PPTLKIT)

Installation & Operation Notes:
  • Intended for installers familiar with PEX-a expansion installation practices
  • Cut tubing square (90°) and avoid deforming the tubing outside diameter
  • Slightly rotate the tube cutter while engaging the blade
  • Slide the PEX expansion sleeve fully onto the tubing
  • Expand the sleeve fully using multiple expansions
  • Rotate the expander approximately 1/8 turn between expansions
  • Insert the fitting fully and verify the sleeve covers the tubing
  • Inspect and pressure-test all completed connections
  • Defective or improperly expanded connections should be removed and replaced

Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
  • Manufacturer states the tool requires virtually no maintenance
  • Clean regularly to remove dirt and debris
  • Keep indenter tips free of buildup
  • Do not spray oil into the tool
  • Do not disassemble or attempt to repair
  • Common causes of leaks include incomplete fitting insertion, improper sleeve coverage, damaged fitting barbs, or failure to rotate between expansions

Certifications & Compliance:
  • Manufacturer documentation references ASTM F1960

User Reviews & Q&A Summary:
  • Reviewers describe the tool as a good-value alternative to higher-priced PEX expansion tools, particularly for homeowners and occasional-use professionals
  • Customers report reliable results on 1/2" PEX-a when proper expansion technique and rotation are followed
  • Common limitations include the physical effort required for 3/4" and 1" PEX and mixed feedback on the quality of the included tube cutter

Good kit

I was concerned this kit didn't include everything it mentions in the ad. The photo didn't show the cutter or the 4th head. I took a chance and am glad I did. Not only did this set truly come with 4 heads and a cutter, it all worked great. I am replumbing my house with pro-Pex, and this tool is doing the job.

Wish that I had spent more

First of all the tube cutter is junk. No matter how carefully I line up the squareness of the cut, the blade always deflects to one side as I squeeze down on the handles. So I get an angled cut every single time and the tube doesn't bottom out uniformly in the sleeve. As other reviewers mentioned, this tool is not fun with 3/4" or larger tubing. It takes both arms and all of the strength I can muster to expand 3/4" ends. By the time I was done with about 15 expansions I was worn out. That was yesterday and my hands are still sore. I'm a mid to large sized guy with hands that are fairly strong and used to taking a beating from diy work. And it does creak and pop as someone else said, despite being lubed. I didn't think that I would be working in any "tight spots" but almost anywhere is a tight spot with a tool like this because it has to be oriented in a specific way and you need tons of clearance to work it. I've noticed some worrisome stretch marks on the tubing just below the sleeve - possibly due to my lack of skill with this tool. Another reviewer had justified their purchase of this type of tool in that they wanted something that was cheap enough to keep on hand for repairs instead of selling off after the initial installation was done. This spoke to me and was part of my rationale for buying this tool. After all, I only planned on needing to use a few 3/4" expansion fittings for my project. In retrospect, I wish that I'd gone for the motorized version - especially now that the scope of my project has grown and I have more 3/4" connections to create than initially anticipated. I'm planning to buy one, and sell off this kit. I'm also trying to find a much better tubing cutter that actually gives me a fighting chance at making square ends.

Great product

Have been dealing with Supply House for a number of years. Great company, very fair pricing and quick service.

This made connections even easier than I expected.

Would highly recommend to have on hand if you're dealing with PEX A tubing. I expected it to be a chore to make the connectors, but it was surprisingly simple. I would buy this again, especially with the multiple size adapters and cutting tool.

Totally worth it for mostly 1/2" and smaller.

This is a great solution to the more expensive, power tool. I used mostly 1/2 as DIY, and I had very little issue using the tool in all sorts of places. I have a very open crawl space/unconditioned basement, so not getting into tight spaces was a bonus. The screw to hold the handles together fell out early, so recommend loctite when you receive it. I use a 12 gage electrical wire twisted into place as a replacement 'acre' and that works too - so the loss of the screw won't stop you. For 3/4", it's HARD. I am a woman, and I can get these expanded with leverage. My 6' strong man had to do the ones I couldn't get, and he broke a sweat. I recommend the power tool if you are doing this often or working with 3/4" and larger pex. Not unless you are Arnold.. otherwise you'll be back for the more expensive one.

Easier to use then expected.

Was a bit worried trying to use this tool but it expands more then The m12 style so gives you more time to get the connection made. Pleasantly surprised by it quality and function.

Cheap solution

I love my Milwaukee Pro Pex tool, but it was far too expensive to leave behind at the summer house, this does the job.

Works well with all the heads it comes with

I was a bit worried about using this with 1" PEX based on some other reviews but I'm glad I bought it. Much cheaper than the electrical expansion tools and does a good job. 1" definitely requires some muscle force but if you take it slow (put pipe on head, expand, release, rotate, then repeat) it works very well.

A good tool for smaller jobs, appears well-made.

Replumbed two of my houses with the Milwaukee expansion tool, didn't feel I needed it anymore so I sold it and purchased this for minor repairs. It appears to be well-made, worked fine but for a bigger job definitely get the Milwaukee 12 volt expansion tool.
