Excellent ordering assistance

I wasn't sure what I needed here for a well pump tank tee I was installing and I didn't have the time to search through the selections (it was close to the 6:00 pm - next day delivery deadline). Thank you for being willing to recommend this one - it was an excellent solution. I added a 1" brass EL, IPS Male x Female, to head things in the right direction, but it would have done fine just by itself - with the polypropylene pipe adapter (1" barbed x IPS Male) that I needed regardless. Thanks for your assistance and for answering all my questions!

Very, very noisy in my Weil-McLain Ultra Boiler application

I recently replaced a Weil McLain series 1 Ultra Boiler with a new series 4 Ultra Boiler sourced from SupplyHouse. FYI, the Ultra Boiler requires a piping scheme which hydraulically isolates the main boiler loop from all zone loops. However, as you might expect, the hydraulic separation is not perfect, so the zone circulators can and do cause pressure fluctuations in the main boiler loop. These pressure fluctuations cause this check valve, which is installed in the main boiler loop, to rattle like crazy, especially when the boiler cycles down and main boiler loop shuts off but a zone loop circulator (or circulators) continue operating. I suspect that the spring in this check valve is not sufficiently strong to not be affected by the interactions between the main boiler loop and the zone loop(s). In the old series 1 installation I used an oversized massive 1 1/2" Watts check valve mounted vertically and never had a problem with chattering caused by loop interaction. To remedy the chattering problem, I am reinstalling the old Watts check valve which is still in perfect shape even after approx. 21 years of service.

Extremely Loud!!! Spend Extra And Buy Better Quality

This check valve has an extremely loud chatter. I would definitely recommend buying a different brand of check valve such as Caleffi or other reputable brand. Here is my installation so you can compare: The valve is installed horizontally after a differential pressure bypass valve. The installation is between the hot supply and cold return. The system is running at approximately 17 gpm at 7 psi (16.17 ft of water). The chatter occurs when the flow through the check valve reaches 10-17 gpm, depending on how many zone valves are closed. The check valve is installed approximately 12" downstream of the DPBV. The chatter may be caused by turbulence from the DPBV. However, I have a 1" check valve of the same design elsewhere in the system which also chatters to a lesser extent. It does not have a direct source of turbulence to attribute its noise to. It is up to you if you want to take the chance on a very noisy check valve. Good luck!

Good product…. Better Service!!

Not a difficult decision, call in a plumber or replace the leaky check valve, which was causing our well pump to frequently cycle. I had the SCH-40 fittings on hand and enough 1" to get it done. Took me 30 minutes to measure 3x …..and cut once. All in order, no constant cycling. Thanks SH!! Great service, sharp rep, valve arrived in under 24hrs…. I'll be back

Yes but PVC would be the better solution. Stephen Cuzziere Go Green Industries

My comments are not code based, nor legal based ... however, If you use this check valve for a garden hose set up and its being pumped from a drinking water supply, and you are using the hose to spray something that has a chemical in it such as fertilizer, I'd suggest that you install 2 of these check valves about 2"-6" apart, and you locate them in a place that is not subject to being moved as the garden hose would be. (mount them very close to the water outlet, and fix them to a stake or pipe) While there are springs in the checks, bumping the hose around could allow them to open briefly.

This product has female iron pipe size thread not hose bib threads. you can use 3/4" IPT to 3/4 hose bib thread adapter to make it work. Hi Jim, I bought two of theses about a year ago. I did not see any adjustment to the spring. Our house pressure runs 35-40 pounds and I have never had a problem with flow. Good Luck Jon

Q: 1. Will this valve work in a vertical position with the flow going down? What is the "crack Pressure" of the spring?

Asked by Scott 13 years ago

Add your answer

* Required Field
-

Yes, it will work in the vertical with flow going down or up. The crack pressure is low. It's really just enough to prevent convective (ghost) flow. It's not a very strong spring. I don't know an exact opening pressure rating.

Was this review helpful to you?
-

Spring loaded check valves work in any orientation. Not sure what the opening pressure of the valve is.

Was this review helpful to you?
-

Yes, this valve will work in a vertical position with the flow going down. Thats how I installed it. Will this valve work in a vertical position with the flow going down? What is the "crack Pressure" of the spring?" I do not know.

Was this review helpful to you?
-

Yes, as long as there is no vacuum break upstream; the lift pressure is maybe 12" H2O.

Was this review helpful to you?
-

Yes, as long as there is not a vacuum break installed anywhere. The left pressure is no more than a few inches of water.

Was this review helpful to you?
-

Yes, as long as there is not a vacuum break in the system, the lift pressure is about 10" H2O.

I don't know, but it was quiet when I started my recirc pump and as the water heater gets up to temperature, the valve starts clattering like crazy.

Q: Will this check valve work with 1/2" PEX x 1/2" NPT Brass Female Adapter SKU: H040500? I bought these pieces an they have a really loose fit. Don't seem to tighten up with a lot of teflon tape.

You'll need to use an adapter that has male threads with the SLSC050T check valve (part H030500, for example). H040500 has female threads.

Q: I am currently using a swing gate style, on the cold supply to the hot water heater. The gate "bangs" and is extremely noisy in the house. I would like to use this to replace the swing gate? I suspect it would be much quiter then a swing style

The spring-loaded valve will definitely make less noise, but it may still be audible on occasion.
