Description

Air separators are used to continuously remove the air contained
in the hydronic circuits of heating and cooling systems. The air
discharge capacity of these devices is very high. They are capable of
removing automatically all the air present in the system down to the
micro-bubble level.
The circulation of fully de-aerated water enables the equipment to
operate under optimum conditions, free from noise, corrosion, localized
or mechanical damage. Micro-bubbles, fusing with each other, increase
in volume (get larger) until they become large enough to rise to the top
where they are automatically released.

Excellent unit
Fully serviceable interior. I place 3/4" unit on feed of each zone. If you have a pump on the feed of the zone, place unit right before pump. Great on individual radiant loops. Will vent air/micro bubbles out almost instantaneously and eliminate call backs for zone purging especially at the beginning of the heating season.
The 1 1/4" version is an excellent full system air eliminator when installed on the main boiler feed before the zone header. Again, if you have a main pump on the feed side, install unit before pump. Far better than antiquated "air scoops". Do not install unit on return piping or return mains. This is an incorrect location and renders the unit useless. Even if you have a pump on the zone returns or return main, install unit on the feed side of zones or the feed main.

I would not recommend this product.
This compact air separator (551003A ) cannot be disassembled to access the mesh (air separation medium). The catalog drawings imply (by showing threads and oring seals) that it can be disassembled but in reality in cannot. There is very little mesh in the air separation chamber. The product did not separate air (at all) when placed in the boiler return side with a flow of approximately 6 gpm. Caleffi drawing # 01060/18 NA incorrectly states that the mesh can be removed from the top.

Q: Is this unit lead free? I'm still undetermined if I will cycle the domestic water from my tank (open circuit) for a radiant heating application or if I will cycle through a heat ex-changer coil in the tank (closed circuit). I want to do closed loop, but it all depends on the size connections of the heat ex-changer coil (still waiting on info from manufacturer). While I wait, I'm trying to put on paper components that would work for both.
