Yes, the thermostat can be used without a wifi connection. And yes, you do not need wifi for the remote sensors to connect to the thermostat. The thermostat isn't really very "smart" but it does make good use of these remote temperature and occupancy sensors. If you are just looking for features associated with those, then you are okay without wifi. You will, however, be limited in what you can do without wifi. The only way a computer, tablet, or smartphone can connect to the thermostat is if the thermostat can connect to the same wifi network. And that network needs to be connected to the internet. Programming the thermostat with another device really first interacts with a server on the internet, the that information gets sent back to the thermostat. Without that connection you can only program the thermostat, with the thermostat. Which is a far better experience than most thermostats. The only way you can get the outside temperature, or weather forecast, is if it can connect to a weather server.
