Description

A Heat Recovery Ventilator is a complete whole house ventilation system that incorporates a supply motor and an exhaust motor in one unit. It is designed to bring a continuous supply of fresh air into the home while exhausting an equal amount of contaminated air. HRVs use what is known as a "sensible" heat recovery core. The special aluminum core transfers heat from the exhaust air stream to the incoming air stream. Fresh incoming air is tempered by the heat that is transferred from the outgoing air so you save on energy costs. HRVs are designed for colder areas of the country that have longer heating seasons as well as drier desert areas of the South.

Features:
  • Powder coated 22-gauge galvanized steel cabinets
  • Fully insulated with 1" aluminum foil-face high density foam
  • (2) German manufactured motors with backward incline impellers
  • Aluminum heat recovery core
  • Compact design
  • Mounting: Suspended by chains and hooks
  • Three speeds
  • Continuous exhaust only model
  • External screw type dry contacts for quick connection of remote controls
  • (2) Electrostatic filters (washable)
  • 60-200 CFM (28-94 L/s) at 0.4" w.g.
  • 3' plug-in power cord
  • 6" side port duct connections

Q: I live northwest of Chicago, and while we have at times a humid summer, the heat recovery units seem to be my best option. What is the difference in the defrost features of this unit and SHR2005R, with the recirculation defrost mode? As we have fairly cold winters, I will need an effective defrost method.

For the SHR2005R, During the defrost sequence, a motorized damper temporarily blocks the incoming fresh air stream so that the warm air from the house can circulate through the HRV. The exhaust blower shuts down and the supply blower switches into high speed to maximize the effectiveness of the defrost strategy. During this cycle, household odors from the kitchen or bathroom are prevented from entering the home and the unit will not create negative pressure. For the SHR2004, A preset defrost sequence is activated at an outdoor air temperature of 23ºF (-5ºC) and lower. During the defrost sequence, the supply blower shuts down & the exhaust blower switches into high speed to maximize the effectiveness of the defrost strategy. The unit then returns to normal operation, and continues cycle.
