Grundfos repair kit

The new impeller was easy to install and the pump runs as quietly as it did before. Between Grundfos and Supply House, it was easy to match the right parts to the recirculation pump we have.

Easy Fix

My 19 year old Grundfos circulating pump was on its last legs, making a loud noise like the bearing was failing. Putting in a new pump would have required sweating new connections in a very tight spot, so I opted to try just replacing the cartridge. The job was quick and easy to perform, and now the pump runs quietly. I did note that the photo in the SupplyHouse listing for this cartridge is not correct, but a quick call to Customer Service verified that it was a stock photo and, as long as I had the right part number I was ok. That turned out to be correct and the cartridge I received was exactly what was needed.

Q: Hi, I have a GRUNDFOS recirculating pump Type UP 15-10 B5 #59896253 that went bad. Is this replacement motor compatible with my Grundfos pump? Thanks in advance for your reply!

No, there is no replacement motor for the UP10-15B5 sku 59896253 so the pump would have to be replaced. This is an OEM pump so please consult the manufacturer of the unit this pump was supplied with for the correct replacement model.

Based on the model number provided it seems that sku 506173 is the correct replacement cartridge kit, not this one.

Q: Hi, I have a Grundfos UP 15-18B5 circulation pump recirculating hot water in my house. The water feed was turned off to the house and the pump started making a lot of noise (caused by air in the line), and was turned off within a couple minutes. Now water pressure is restored and the pump continues to make the same squealing noise even though I've vented the air using the screw on the face of the pump. In the past when this has happened the noise was stopped by bleeding the air out of the pump. The installation also has a Taco air vent at the high point in the loop. Will the Grundfos 00506174 replacement motor assembly fix this problem or should the pump be completely replaced?

Normally if a pump is run dry, it is most likely no longer usable and should be replaced. It would be hard to determine if the pump is still operational.

Q: I turned the water off to the house prior to leaving for vacation and the pump on the solar domestic water heater was allowed to run dry. It still appears to be spinning, but is louder than it was. Will this part solve the issue, or do I need to replace the entire pump?

Q: I have the Grundfos 59896145 and it was left on while i was on vacation, I shut the main water supply to the whole house. Came back and now my pump won't start. Can this part fix the problem?

It is to hard to say for sure but there is a chance that by running it dry the pump is ruined. Try to get the air out of the pump and make sure the shaft is turning freely and if that doesn't fix the issue then the whole pump will probably need to be replaced.
