The Grundfos circulator pumps, Series UP, are specifically designed for heating systems. The pumps are also suitable for circulation of hot domestic water and for circulation of liquid in cooling and air-conditioning systems.
Heating systems
Common uses:
Pump types with cast iron pump housing are generally used for these applications, considered to be closed systems, for pumping water or water/glycol mixtures. However, when water conditions are not compatible with cast iron, we recommend the use of bronze or stainless steel.
Optional variable-speed and mixing-reset controls are available to customize heat output vs heat demand for increased comfort.
Domestic hot-water systems:
Common uses:
Pump types with bronze, brass or stainless steel pump housing are used for these applications, considered to be open systems, for pumping potable water.
Optional timer and thermostat controls are available to limit pump operation to periods when hot water is required and to save energy.
Cooling systems:
Common uses:
Pump types UP(S) 25, 26, 43, 50 and pump housings compatible with the pumped liquids are recommended for chilled water due to their motor construction, which is suitable for 32 °F (0 °C) water.

The UP pumps are of the canned rotor type, i.e. pump and motor form an integral unit without shaft seal and with only two gaskets for sealing. The bearings are lubricated by the pumped liquid.

Put into a solar hot water system. Now the circuit breaker remains off on the hot water heater. It saves me a lot of money in energy costs.

Q: I purchase a home with a Grundfos UM15-10B5 model re-circulation pump that was disconnected when the hot water heater (40 gal) was replaced. I was told that the pump doesn't work. I want to replace it and reconnect. Three questions: [1] Is the replacement pump the UP15-10b5? [2] Is this a continuous flow system once connected to the power source? [3] I understand this pump has max power input of 25 watts. I calculate daily power usage as 25 watts X 24 hours equaling 600 watts per day (unless a timer is added) is that correct for this pump? Thank you in advance for your immediate response. I am doing a solar install and this information is vital to the system engineering design. Best, --Richard Seaman

Verified Reply- SupplyHouse StaffUM15-10B5 is definitely obsoleted and the UP15-10bf is the direct replacement. There is an option with a timer (SKU 59896215). The input max is 25 watts that is correct.
