Simple Remote Controller - 2 Setpoint Auto, PREMTC00U

Very easy install, three wires that run to the cassette or wall unit (depending on install). Essentially no options as everything is configured automatically and limited buttons to avoid confusion for the customer. As long as you have an idea of what all the icons stand for with regards to mode, it's a very easy and reliable product.

I got this controller for a single-zone wall-mount LGRED unit so it's not relying on the internal thermistor, which is wildly inaccurate in a high ceiling (10') scenario. The installation was easy enough, once I figure where to plug the 3-wire harness that came with the IDU without any instructions (you need to fish out the green 3-pin connector hidden somewhere inside the wiring compartment. The software is, however, buggy or requires better documentation. Or maybe they simply didn't test the controller with a single-zone wall-mount (even though the submittal listed it as compatible). The IDU default has a +4'F on / +8'F off, which may work when the thermistor is up high, but at 5' off the floor, I'd need to set the heat to 60'F to get a temperature range of 64-68'F. Setting the thermal on/off to -1'F/+1'F as a normal person would in the US resulted in short-cycling in the order of seconds when the temperature is fluctuating between two numbers (SW bug). In some instances, the unit would consume a large amount of power even though the target temperature has been reached (maybe some weird underflow error or the internal PID algorithm still assumes +4'F to be the target). Basically, the -1/+1'F setting is unusable. I have not tested much with the -2/+2'F option, but the temperature range is the same as the default and the installer settings are remembered across power-loss (maybe IDU dependent), so I cannot deviate from the default and trust it to operate properly (e.g. power-loss while on vacation). In the end, after spending $150, I need to set the target temperature to 60'F to keep the room between 64-68. The cheaper option would have been to rip the thermistor out of the IDU and place it lower on the wall, which seems to be what the $150 controller is doing in my use-case.
